About Referendums and initiatives.
1. Referendums. You can think of referendums as a form of “veto power.” With referendum voting, citizens can demand a public vote on any and all laws, policies, or actions put forward by the government. If the majority of citizens vote against something, it is immediately scrapped before taking effect. The people have the final say. To put a referendum on a ballot requires petitions be circulated and signatures gathered within a certain timeframe. 2. Initiatives. Initiatives take place when the people feel the government isn’t addressing an important issue or concern, so they put forward a measure to be voted upon that will do so. As with a referendum, signature collection is required to put the initiative on the ballot. Vertical Divider
